Butterfly Impressions

Concerning the Coming Presidential Election:

on September 18, 2012

There has been a lot of talk about being against one candidate or another for lots of different reasons. And, considering things that both candidates have said or done, I know that it’s difficult to decide who to vote for. I do believe that exercising our right to vote is important, and I would like to encourage you to do so. But, who should you vote for?

Phrases keep coming up like “the lesser of two evils”, “a vote for him is a vote for the other guy”, and “I would vote for him if…” As I have listened to these comments, I keep being reminded of one thing more than anything else: integrity.

There may be someone who you want to vote for, deep down, but you’re afraid that if you do, it won’t make any difference. I can assure you that many people feel the same way.

But, it will make a difference. It will strengthen your character and leave you with a feeling of self-assurance that you did what you knew was right and best. And, when you exercise your integrity, it is strengthened.

Your responsibility is to vote for the person you believe would be the best president for our country. Anything less will jeopardize your integrity. It is not your responsibility to be concerned with who anyone else is planning on voting for. Their vote is their choice, and their responsibility is individual, just as yours is for you. Once you have done all that you can, encouraging others to do the same, you are accountable for nothing else.

So, as you continue to consider who would be best to vote for, please keep these things in mind. You are stronger than you realize. You do not need to feel cajoled into voting for anyone for any reason. It is your right and responsibility to educate yourself, and then vote for the individual you think would make our best next president.

Let us stand strong together. And, if we vote differently, let us do so with the assurance that we have each voted as we thought and felt best, upholding our individual integrity – thus, strengthening the integrity of our country as well.
