Simple Ideas for Primary 2: Lesson 24

on June 24, 2016

Teaching a group of young children can be a daunting task.  So, my husband and I like to keep our lessons simple.  Here’s the basic schedule we follow:

  • 5-10 minute Bathroom Break
  • 5-10 minute Sharing (Class members share ways they Chose the Right during the week)
  • 20-25 minute Lesson
  • 15-20 minute Art Activity

In each of my Simple Ideas for Primary 2 Lessons posts, I’ll be sharing our basic lesson outline, Art Activity ideas, etc.  Also, be sure to check out the Free BI Originals tab for more resources!

Primary 2: Lesson 24 ~ Outline

Review: Heavenly Father’s Plan & Attitude (from Lesson 22)

Quote & Discussion: Blessings & Gratitude

  • “Gratitude is a Spirit-filled principle. It opens our minds to a universe permeated with the richness of a living God. Through it, we become spiritually aware of the wonder of the smallest things, which gladden our hearts with their messages of God’s love. This grateful awareness heightens our sensitivity to divine direction. When we communicate gratitude, we can be filled with the Spirit and connected to those around us and the Lord.” ~ Bonnie D. Parkin (General Conference, April 2007)
  • We should have an “Attitude of Gratitude”, or a spirit of gratitude in our hearts.

Scripture Story & Discussion: The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-29)

  • Tell the children the Parable of the Talents.
  • Explain that the talents are like blessings that Heavenly Father gives us.  We are to share those blessings with others.  When we do, Heavenly Father entrusts us with more and greater blessings.
  • When we bury our blessings by not showing gratitude for them, further blessings are withheld from us.

Discussion Activity: Gratitude Pom Pom Jar

  • Materials Needed: 1 Small Jar & enough Pom Poms to fill the jar
  • Have reverent children take turns sharing something they’re grateful for and putting one pom pom in the jar.
  • When the jar is full, point out that when we show gratitude for our blessings, we are spiritually filled, just like the jar.  But, when we fail to show gratitude, we cannot fully appreciate the fullness of Heavenly Father’s blessings.
