Simple Ideas for Primary 2: Lesson 26

on July 2, 2016

Teaching a group of young children can be a daunting task.  So, my husband and I like to keep our lessons simple.  Here’s the basic schedule we follow:

  • 5-10 minute Bathroom Break
  • 5-10 minute Sharing (Class members share ways they Chose the Right during the week)
  • 20-25 minute Lesson
  • 15-20 minute Art Activity

In each of my Simple Ideas for Primary 2 Lessons posts, I’ll be sharing our basic lesson outline, Art Activity ideas, etc.  Also, be sure to check out the Free BI Originals tab for more resources!

Primary 2: Lesson 26 ~ Outline

Review: Heavenly Father’s Plan

Scripture Discussion: Intent – Choice – Action

intent - choice - action

  • “…the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” ~ 1 Samuel 16:7
  • Explain that our intent influences our choices, which influence our actions.  Having pure, righteous intentions is most important to Heavenly Father.
  • “Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart.” ~ Doctrine and Covenants 6:16
  • True happiness, lasting happiness, depends on our intentions. Good intentions enable us to learn from our choices and actions, successes and mistakes.

Discussion: Physical Emotions & Spiritual Feelings

  • Explain that physical emotions are the result of something that happens to us.  But, spiritual feelings are the result of something we choose (intent, choice, or action) and who we are.
  • Physical emotions can be confusing.  But, spiritual feelings from the Holy Ghost and Heavenly Father will help increase your understanding.
  • Despite how we may feel emotionally when we make a mistake, we will feel spiritually comforted if we have good intentions.

Scripture Story & Discussion: The Rich Young Man (Mark 10:17-22)

  • Tell the children the story of the rich young man.
  • Explain that although the rich young man wanted to follow Jesus, he wasn’t willing to give up his worldly riches.
  • How did this make him feel? (sad and grieved)
  • How can we purify our intentions? (pray, read the scriptures, be humble)

Game: Choices and Consequences

  • Prepare one of the games below to play as a class.
